Home Security
For When You Are Away
The following information has been gleaned from the pamphlet pictured below which is available from the Sheriffs Department.
The biggest worry for many people is will their home and belongings be safe while they are away. The following tips should help put their minds at ease.
The idea of securing your home while away is to make it appear that someone is there.

|
- Make sure all doors and windows are secure.
- Ask a trusted friend or neighbor to watch your house while you are away. Give them a phone number where you will be staying and other pertinent information. (If you are going to be in an area where your cell phone works that might be the best number.)
- Have the post office hold your mail or ask a neighbor to pick it up.
- Stop newspaper deliveries.
|
- Set lights on variable timers in several rooms. (For example: turn on living room lights at dusk; turn them off at your normal bedtime. Set the bedroom lights to turn on when you normally prepare for bed and turn off when you usually go to bed.)
- TVs and radios can also be put on timers
- Never Leave messages on your answering machine letting people know that you are away from home

If you should ever become a victim of a break in, report it immediately.
To help in the recovery of any stolen property, the police will need as much information as possible on the items taken.
